About the OCF Scholarship Program

The Oceana Community Foundation offers scholarships each year to support local students pursuing degrees, certificates, skilled trades training, or apprenticeships. Our goal is to help you take the next step in your education—whatever path you choose.

Applications for the 2026–27 academic year are closed. The next cycle, for 2027–28, will open in November 2026.

You’re eligible to apply if you are a resident of Oceana County and a graduate of an Oceana public, private, or homeschool program. And remember: don’t let your GPA stop you from applying. Many scholarships consider more than just grades.

Scholarship awards are paid directly to accredited institutions or approved training programs and help cover tuition, fees, books, room and board, tools, and other essential costs.

You’ll complete one application, and we’ll match you with all scholarships for which you qualify. If you have questions about eligibility, please contact us.

When applications open in November, follow the steps below to get started.

We’re excited to support your journey.

How to Apply

A complete scholarship application has three parts:

  1. Submit the online application through the portal below
  2. If you are dual-enrolled or a current college student, send over your college transcript to the Foundation. We will accept unofficial transcripts, but they must show your name and college. The Foundation will work with your guidance counselor to receive a copy of your high school transcript
  3. Submit your Student Aid Index to be considered for need-based aid.

High school seniors & current college students may submit an application through the GOApply system here:

Please read through these Scholarship Application Detailed Instructions to help navigate our application portal!

Additional documents can be emailed to our Program Officer, Hannah Naples, at [email protected]

  • Explain any additional factors you believe should be considered in reviewing your application. Your response is limited to 1200 characters.

We encourage you to share something you’re proud of, any challenges you’ve overcome, or additional struggles you’ve faced in pursuing your education. Please only share what you feel comfortable sharing.

ESSAY WRITING TIPS

  • Brag! You’ve worked hard to reach this point—take this opportunity to proudly share your journey and achievements.
  • Show your vision. Clearly outline your future education and career goals, and explain the motivations or inspirations driving you to pursue them.
  • Be specific. When discussing key influences, like a family member, a teacher/mentor, an opportunity, or an activity, etc, give clear examples of how they impacted your goals.
  • Highlight community impact. Share how your contributions have made a positive difference in your community and reflect on what you learned and how you plan to continue helping.
  • Share what matters. Use the additional factors section to highlight something you’re proud of, a challenge you’ve overcome, or a struggle you’ve faced in pursuing your education. Only share what feels right for you.

Complete Your Degree

You’re Closer Than You Think

Life Happens. So Does Opportunity.

Whether you started college and didn’t finish, or never had the chance to begin—you’re not alone.

The Complete Your Degree (CYD) program is built for adults in Oceana County who are ready to take the next step toward education, career growth, and a more secure future. No matter your age, circumstances, or past experiences, you deserve the opportunity to move forward—with support every step of the way.

What is Complete your degree?

Complete Your Degree (CYD) is a supportive scholarship program offered by the Oceana Community Foundation. It helps adult learners return to college or career training and successfully complete a postsecondary credential. The program combines financial assistance with personal guidance to help you navigate school, work, and life.

Is this program for you?

This program is designed for:

  • Adults who live in Oceana County.
  • Individuals who have started college or training in the past but didn’t finish.
  • People considering going to college or earning a certificate for the first time.
  • Attending one of our partner schools, Baker College, Muskegon Community College or West Shore Community College.
  • Anyone who is motivated to build a better future but needs financial and personal support to make it happen.

WHAT THE PROGRAM OFFERS

Up to $5,000 in Scholarship Funding Each Year

  • Use funds for tuition, books, fees, and other education-related costs at our partner schools.

Support for Life’s Unexpected Challenges

  • Emergencies shouldn’t stop you from earning your degree. CYD provides additional financial support for life obstacles that could impact your ability to stay in school.

A Dedicated Success Coach

Every participant works with a success coach for personalized support including:

  • Career exploration
  • Time management
  • Motivation and goal-setting
  • Navigating financial aid
  • Staying on track through life’s ups and downs

Apply for a Campership

The Shelby Rotary Club and the Foundation are pleased to offer the opportunity for Oceana youth to attend camp this summer. Camp experiences bring new skills and self-worth to our youth and build up the 4 C’s within them; compassion, contribution, commitment, and character. The Rotary Club and CFOC donors realize this impact, and work to ensure camp experiences are accessible to all, regardless of financial status.

Awards are capped at $250 per applicant, but higher requests will be evaluated according to available funding. All awards will be paid directly to the camps and are available for any type of camping focus – arts, sports, scouts, church, general, and leadership experiences.

Deadline to Apply – April 1st

Invest in Oceana Students Today!

The Oceana Community Foundation administers more than 55 scholarship funds, each one creating hope and opportunity for local students pursuing higher education, skilled trades, certificates, or apprenticeships. When you start a scholarship fund, you become part of a powerful community effort to support learners of all ages—and we’re here to make the process easy, meaningful, and personal.

Start Your Own Scholarship Fund

You can begin a scholarship fund with a gift of $10,000 or more, or grow one over time by starting a Build-A-Fund (BAF) with an initial contribution of $1,000 and building it over five years.

We’ll help you design criteria that truly serve students—especially those whose needs are often the greatest. We encourage flexible criteria that support learners at any stage of their educational journey, whether they are high school graduates, current college students, or adult learners returning to school. Your fund can also support any educational path, including trade programs, apprenticeships, community college, certificate programs, and universities.

With decades of experience running a strong and adaptive scholarship program. Together, we’ll create a fund that is impactful today and able to evolve as student needs change.

Or give to an existing scholarship fund today! You can view a complete list of scholarship funds managed by the Oceana Community Foundation to explore more.

Support Students Who Need It Most

Your fund can make a powerful difference for students who are:

  • First‑generation college students

  • Living with one parent or without family support
  • Experiencing financial hardship
  • Living with a disability or recovering from trauma
  • Foster youth
  • BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or People of Color)
  • Non‑traditional or returning adult learners

We’ll work with you to ensure your fund lifts up students who need opportunity the most.
