The Oceana Community Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Angela Ortiz as its first Youth Engagement Officer, a newly created position designed to strengthen connections with youth and families throughout Oceana County while supporting the Foundation’s educational initiatives and scholarship programs.
A lifelong Oceana County resident, Angela Ortiz brings a strong background in early childhood education, community engagement, and youth development to the role. A 2020 graduate of Shelby High School, she earned an Associate of Science and Arts in Early Childhood Education from Muskegon Community College, along with her Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
For the past six years, Angela Ortiz has served children and families in both assistant and teaching roles across Oceana and Muskegon counties. Her professional experience has also included work in the hospitality industry, where she developed strong customer service and community-building skills.
“I am thrilled to serve as the Youth Engagement Officer at the Oceana Community Foundation,” said Ortiz, “The opportunity to grow, contribute, and make a meaningful difference is all I could ask for. I look forward to using my experience and perspective to help promote scholarships for students and young adults, as well as support the Read Early, Read Often program.”
In her new role, Angela will focus on increasing youth engagement across Foundation programs, strengthening awareness of scholarship opportunities, supporting early literacy initiatives, and building meaningful relationships with students, families, educators, and community partners.
“Angela’s passion for education and deep roots in Oceana County make her an exceptional fit for this new role,” said Foundation CEO, Tammy Carey, “Her experience working directly with children and families, combined with her commitment to helping young people succeed, will help us expand opportunities and strengthen our impact throughout the county.”
Born and raised in Shelby, Ortiz credits Oceana County’s strong sense of community as one of the reasons she is excited to serve locally.
“Oceana County is truly a hidden gem,” she said. “There is a unique spirit of compassion, engagement, and neighborly support here. I am excited to dedicate my time and energy to the community where I grew up and benefited from so many opportunities. My goal is to help create those same opportunities for others.”
Outside of work, Angela enjoys spending time with her dog, Chili, learning to play golf, and enjoying all that Oceana County has to offer, from local events to the area’s natural beauty.
The creation of the Youth Engagement Officer position reflects the Oceana Community Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting educational success, fostering community connections, and creating opportunities for young people across Oceana County.
