For the Good of the Community

“For the good of the community” is how A. Harold Frauenthal wished his substantial bequest to be used by the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. When the wrecking ball was ready to swing at the boarded up Michigan Theater in 1976, we set a bold course and used his gift to purchase the entire block of Western Avenue. In 1998, renovations breathed life back into the theater and adjacent buildings, and the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts emerged!

For over 86 years, this cornerstone of downtown has been home to movies, musical performances, live theater, graduations, community events, and even weddings, and the generous gift of Mr. Frauenthal continues to benefit our community. For more information about the history of the theater as well as current event and rental information, please visit www.frauenthal.org.
